Stair-Scapes are new kinds of public art installations where people can gather together to eat, drink, relax, converse, exercise, and interact with the rest of the world through a wireless connection to the Internet.
Stair-Scapes are basically large functional public sculptures made of an assemblage of staircases. Their design is based on a modular system of components so as a result, the structure can be made any size and formed into many different configurations in order to become very site specific.
Stair-Scape structures can be placed in any kind of public space such as a public park. They can also be installed inside of an existing building like an airport, or a train station. Stair-Scape structures can be made of many different kinds of materials such as wood, steel, concrete, recycled plastic lumber, etc. They can be designed to be permanent or temporary structures.
Stair-Scapes were created to provide a new kind of public place that promotes physical fitness and at the same time, provides a fun place for families and friends to gather together locally, as well as globally, through the Internet.
Tables and seats can be scattered all around and under the structures to provide places to eat, drink, relax, converse, and or access the Internet through a wireless connection.
In some cases solar panels, wind turbines, and/or other alternative energy gathering systems can be added to the Stair-Scapes in order to provide clean energy for the community in which the structures are installed. It is also possible to install special stair treads that generate electricity each time pressure is applied.
